Alcohol Addiction Treatment in Phoenix

Evidence-based outpatient treatment for alcohol use disorder — licensed clinicians, medical support, and a program built around your life.

Alcohol is the most commonly misused substance in Arizona, and it's also one of the most under-treated — many people who would benefit from structured care never get it, either because they don't recognize the severity of their drinking or because they assume treatment means disappearing into a 30-day facility. For most people with alcohol use disorder, that's not what's actually needed.

The Barbell Saves Outpatient Center provides medically supervised, evidence-based outpatient treatment for alcohol use disorder in Phoenix, AZ. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) combines licensed therapy, psychiatric support, medication management, and peer support — without requiring you to put your job, family, or daily life on hold.

Signs of Alcohol Use Disorder

  • Drinking more, or longer, than intended — repeatedly
  • Unsuccessful attempts to cut back or stop
  • Cravings or a strong urge to drink
  • Continuing to drink despite problems it's causing at work, home, or in relationships
  • Needing more alcohol to feel the same effect (tolerance)
  • Withdrawal symptoms — shakiness, sweating, anxiety, nausea — when not drinking

If some of this sounds familiar, you're not alone, and it doesn't mean you've failed. It means it's time for a level of care built for where you actually are.

Our Approach to Alcohol Treatment

We specialize in outpatient-level care. If you're currently drinking heavily and alcohol withdrawal could be medically dangerous, the safest first step is a supervised medical detox — we'll help coordinate that placement with a detox partner. Once you're medically stable, our program picks up from there, and for many people who aren't in acute withdrawal risk, IOP is the right starting point from day one.

Treatment includes group therapy focused on relapse prevention and the psychology of alcohol use, individual counseling to work through what's underneath the drinking, psychiatric evaluation and medication management when appropriate, and peer support from people with lived experience in recovery. Movement and wellness — yoga, fitness, nutrition education — are built into the model, not offered as an afterthought.

Alcohol Treatment FAQs

We provide outpatient IOP, not medical detox. If withdrawal could be medically risky for you, we'll help connect you with a detox provider first, then transition you into our program for ongoing treatment.
It depends on your individual situation. Many people with alcohol use disorder do well in IOP without ever needing a residential stay. Our team does a full assessment to make sure you're placed at the right level of care.
In most cases, yes. We're in-network with AHCCCS, Banner, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Medicare. Call us and we'll verify your specific benefits for free, usually within the hour.
Support groups like AA are a valuable part of long-term recovery, but they aren't clinical treatment. Our IOP provides licensed therapy, medical oversight, and a structured treatment plan — many clients do both together.
Relapse is common and doesn't disqualify you from treatment — it's often part of the process. We meet you where you are and adjust your treatment plan accordingly.
